First Off...

What is writing studies...?

Writing studies is essentially what the title is! It is the study and research of writing and focuses on the theory, practice, and teaching regarding writing. There is a wide variety of topics interrelated within written communication including but not limited to rhetorical strategies, genre analysis, writing processes, and the social/cultural implications of writing. Writing studies also have many different approaches to being studied in numerous contexts, whether that be academic, formal, creative, digital texts, and so much more.



Why is writing studies important?

Writing studies has many benefits not just for students but for everyone! For example, it helps us build important connections in our communities and strengthens our ability to express ourselves to others. It not only allows us to build those important communication skills needed in life but also allows us to think critically and further analyze texts, making revelations that we may not have thought of before. This way, we can further engage in different conversations and bond with each other more than ever.We also can apply our knowledge of writing studies in our daily lives whether that be in a classroom, a conversation, or even social media!Learning about writing studies has also helped me improve as a writer. It has allowed me to expand upon my ideas and develop my own writing style.



Where do I begin?

Why are you writing? What do you want to convey? Who do you want to convey it to?
Having a purpose when writing helps you better communicate your thoughts and ideas! It also drives you to keep doing what you are doing and can increase motivation if you know your own goals.For example, I am writing this travel to give my peers an idea of what writing and writing studies are. In general, when I write, it is to get my ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc. out and/or to create stories and have fun. To me, writing is freedom, I can create whatever I want to with just my words and I find that beautiful!
